Nursery and Kids Room Blinds and Shades

Child safe window coverings

Child-Friendly Shades

Safety is the most important consideration for nursery and children's room blinds and shades. The window covering you select should have a child-friendly operating system, i.e., no looped or loose pull cords, and wands should be out of your child's reach.

One great option is the LiteRise® operating system from Hunter Douglas, a cordless, proprietary system that holds blinds and shades in any position. Simply push the window covering up to raise and pull down to lower – and your blinds and shades stay right where you put them.

The LiteRise®  system is available on many Hunter Douglas shades and blinds, including

  • Silhouette® Window Shadings
  • Sonnette™ Cellular Roller Shades
  • Provenance® Woven Wood Shades

Automated Blinds and Shades

The inherent cordless design of motorized window coverings provides you and your family with ultimate convenience and enhanced safety at the window.

Hunter Douglas shades with PowerView® Automation give you the power to control and schedule your shades with voice commands, via your mobile device, or via a remote control.

Using the intuitive PowerView App, you can also automate your window treatments to move to the exact position you want throughout the day.

Room Darkening Shades

If your child is young enough to take naps during the day, look for window treatments made from opaque, room darkening fabrics or window treatments that come with a liner.

We recommend Sonnette™ Cellular Roller Shades, which combine the energy-efficient construction of a cellular shade with the clean lines and simplicity of a roller shade. The shades are available in both semi-opaque and room-darkening fabrics and 48 different colors that range from neutral grays to vibrant red.

Young Children and Window Cords Don't Mix

The window coverings industry uses warning tags, labels, and other methods to communicate the potential hazards of corded window coverings. The warning shown here, for example, communicates the important message about cords being a potential strangulation hazard and suggests choosing cordless or inaccessible-cord alternatives.
